Aidan heads to Vienna for Eurovision after global promo tour

PBS sets up public fan zones for live screenings of all three competition nights

Malta’s Eurovision hopeful, Aidan, is setting off for the competition’s host city Vienna on Sunday together with the rest of the delegation, after a 12-country promotional tour which saw him take Bella from Norway to Greece and all the way to Australia.

He will be singing in the second semi-final of the competition on May 14 as the 14th contestant to take to the stage.

PBS will be hosting three dedicated public viewing events screening all three live shows from Vienna, the first semi-final on May 12, the second semi-final on May 14 and the grand final on May 16.

The TVM Eurovision Fanzones at Triton Square in Valletta and at Campus Hub will give fans an “immersive viewing experience”. Doors at both venues will open at 8pm ahead of the live  broadcast scheduled for 9pm.

Aidan’s performance of Bella in Vienna will be overseen by a “powerhouse creative team” bringing together some of the entertainment industry’s most accomplished creative professionals, many of whom have achieved international recognition through their work at the Eurovision Song ontest and beyond.

Among them are Dan Shipton, Creative Director of the 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, and Lee Smithurst, who served as Head of Show for the same edition. The team also includes renowned lighting designer Al Gurdon, known for his work on the Super Bowl Halftime Show, as well as Tom Eerebout, the globally influential stylist behind artists such as Lady Gaga and Austin Butler.

Shipton is widely recognised for delivering the UK’s strongest Eurovision result in two decades, having led the creative vision for Sam Ryder’s “Space Man,” which secured second place in Turin in 2022.

The 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest has been mired in controversy over the participation of Israel which has faced widespread condemnation, with a number of countries pulling out of the competition.
