Brazilian striker Ailton is to leave Germany's Schalke 04 for Besiktas after one season at the Bundesliga club which finished second behind Bayern Munich.

"Nothing has been signed yet but it looks as if Ailton will move to Istanbul," Schalke team manager Andreas Mueller said.

Ailton was Schalke's top Bundesliga scorer with 14 goals last season, well short of the 28 he netted for Werder Bremen in their league and cup-winning season in 2003/2004.
