Recently, Malta International Airport set up an air cargo development committee as part of its efforts to develop air freight business.
The committee will be chaired by the CEO of MIA and includes representations from Air Malta Ground Handling together with Malta Customs, the Airline Operators Committee and the Malta Association of Air Freight Forwarders.
Their appointment follows an air cargo study and the drafting of a development strategy which aims for Malta to develop into an international air cargo hub.
Certainly, there are untapped niches in the air cargo and freight sector. Air Malta's strategy should be directed towards enhancing this industry further. I believe that if the right markets and customers are identified, there are surely verifiable, sustainable and measurable gains in this area. As a result, profits would crop up as well.
Air Malta needs to focus its energies not only on the passenger sales sector but also on freight and cargo opportunities.
Let's strive to provide good packages and options to cargo companies, thereby attracting them towards utilising air cargo.
