Air Malta's Group general manager, Joe Cappello, has been appointed chief operating officer in line with the company's strategy to strengthen its upper management structure, the airline says.

Mr Cappello has had a long career with Air Malta, mostly in the commercial field, both in Malta and the UK.

Mr Cappello is a director on the boards of a number of Air Malta subsidiaries and associated companies as well as on the board of the Malta Tourism Authority.

He graduated in economics from the University of Malta in 1974 and is a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
