Air Malta and the Malta Tourism Authority said yesterday they have signed a new cooperation agreement.
Under the agreement, which runs until December 2006, Air Malta will make available to MTA no fewer than 3,000 return flight tickets, worth over Lm300,000. MTA will make use of the flights to intensify and strengthen its efforts to market the Maltese Islands as a value-for-money tourist destination.
The agreement allows the MTA to organise foreign media trips and industry professionals' familiarisation visits to Malta. Through the agreement, Air Malta will also provide cargo space on its flights for MTA promotional material which need to be transported to its overseas locations.
Apart from the 3,000 flights over two years, Air Malta will also be contributing Lm600,000 to the MTA's marketing budget in the coming 24 months. This is a substantial percentage of the airline's international marketing budget.
In return, MTA will give Air Malta exclusive mentions in its advertising campaigns, which have significant value, as well as free participation in some 90 tourism-related fairs which the MTA participates in each year.
