An Air Malta Boeing 737-200A, operating from Manchester to Malta on Sunday, was hit by an airport vehicle at Manchester Airport, Air Malta said.

What was described as a "minor incident" occurred when the aircraft, registration number 9H-ABE, was being pushed back from its stand.

No passengers or crew on flight KM139 were injured, the company said.

Air Malta diverted flight KM395, scheduled to fly from Amsterdam to Malta, to Manchester, to pick up the damaged plane's passengers.

After the necessary repairs were carried out at Manchester airport, 9H-ABE was expected to return to Malta early yesterday afternoon.

Two similar incidents took place recently at Malta International Airport. Ten days ago an Air Malta passenger coach hit a Germania Air Fokker 100 aircraft on the apron and last month an Air Malta aircraft had its fuselage dented when it was hit by ground stairs.
