Reference is made to the On the Dot item entitled Flee Fall (March 21). Air Malta would like to reply as follows.

The short note in On the Dot tries to throw mud at the restructuring exercise currently underway at Air Malta. The article is an unfair and uninformed critique of the lengthy, well thought out and planned process that has as its end goal the return of the airline to profitability through a corporate structure that reflects today's realities. It appears that the author was referring to the appointment of 13 general managers.

Candidus II may wish to note that the current management structure is made up of one chief executive officer, one chief operating officer, eight chief officers and 21 general managers. The senior management structure made up of 56 persons that existed one year ago was replaced with a structure of 31 officials.

The author also states that (Air Malta) fares are higher than other airlines'. This is completely false. Part of Air Malta's restructuring process has led to the introduction of an innovative, drastically reduced fare structure based on one-way pricing known as FlexiFly. More information about Air Malta's fares is available at www.airmalta.com/offers. Consumers can check and compare flight prices themselves thus making an informed choice.
