Air Malta yesterday took delivery of a new Airbus Industrie A320, the first of 12 new aircraft it is to acquire over the next four-and-a-half years on lease from International Lease Finance Corporation.
Carrying the registration number 9H-AEF, the aircraft left the Airbus base in Toulouse, France late in the evening arriving in Malta about two hours later. Air Malta staff Romano Cassar and Richard Soler and Trevor Crow, from the Civil Aviation Department's air worthiness division, were in Toulouse in connection with the delivery.
The plane was flown to Malta by Captain Joe Farrugia, chief pilot Airbus, and Captain Lawrence Gatt, manager technical and projects.
The airline's new fleet will be officially inaugurated on January 17 when 9H-AEF is expected to be in attendance.
