The Malta Shooting Federation air-weapon ranges were alive with activity last weekend with the final selection event, namely, the Britannia Tours competition.

Lawrence Darmanin won the Air-rifle shoot and qualified for the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE) next June. The other shooter to qualify was young William Vella. He will have a first taste of international competition.

Anton Camilleri, as expected, made it in the Air-pistol class with another comfortable win ahead of Ray Cacciattolo who also won his qualification for the games.

Air-rifle: L. Darmanin 575 + 102.2 (677.2); W. Vella 572 + 95.8 (667.8); M. Abela 558 + 99.1 (657.1).

Air-pistol: A. Camilleri 579 + 96.1 (675.1); R. Cacciattolo 533 + 97.6 (630.6); T. Galea 526 + 88.9 (614.9).

Also last weekend, but at the far south of the island at the ranges of the Southern Shooters Club in Hal Far, Joe Attard made short work of a 50-clay plus final Trap competition. The shoot was as per programme and the John Grech Trophy was at stake. Attard showed some good shooting to finish on a respectable 70-clay score.

Class A: 1. Joe Attard (47); 2. Nicky Carabott (45); 3. John Marmara (43). Class B: 1. Emmanuel Attard (41); 2. Maurice Cutajar (39); 3. Joe Cassar (36). Class C: 1. Peter Muscat (40); 2. Ryan Bugeja (38); 3. Carmel Abdilla (38).

Overall: 1. Joe Attard 70; 2. Nicky Carabott 68; 3. John Marmara 66; 4. Stephen Vella 62; 5. Emm. Attard 61; 6. Frank Scorfna 61.
