The association of airline engineers has won sole recognition for specific grades of ground engineers, supervisor engineers and superintendent engineers at Air Malta.

The association (AAE) produced evidence that it had an absolute majority of members before an industrial tribunal which ruled that the AAE was an appropriate collective bargaining unit which could best protect its members' relatively specific interests.

The tribunal noted that the General Workers' Union had been invited to make its submissions before the tribunal but had not taken up the invitation.

Dr Ian Spiteri Bailey was counsel to Adrian Rizzo and Francis Bonnici, representatives of the AAE while Dr Andrew Borg Cardona was counsel to Air Malta.
