Airport passenger movements increased by 7% in January, with the increases coming mostly from the UK and Italian markets, MIA said today.

It said 147,539 used Malta airport last month, an increase of 9,721 over January 2009. Traffic increased by 5.7% from the UK, 7.0% from Italy and 140% from Spain but dropped by 11% from Germany.

Aircraft movements were up 5.2% and cargo increased by 1.4%.

Malta experienced a downturn in airport movements in 11 of the 12 months last year but saw growth in December.
