Senegalese rapper Akon will be returning for a solo concert in Malta on August 14.

The singer-songwriter is known as one of the most successful and versatile R&B singers of the last decade.

Akon rose to prominence in 2004 following the release of Locked Up, the first single from his debut album Trouble. He is the first solo artist to hold both the number one and two spots simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 charts twice.

He has had six Grammy Awards nominations and produced hits for artists such as Lady Gaga and Leona Lewis.

Akon, who performed at the first edition of the Isle of MTV festival in Malta in 2007, was working with Michael Jackson before the pop star's death last July.

Early bird tickets for the Malta concert are available online at €30 from www.g7events.com. Further details will be announced in the coming days.
