A considerable amount of alcohol and pasta was yesterday confiscated from a cement-carrying vessel at Marsa by the Customs Enforcement Unit, sources said.

The Maltese-registered ship berthed at about 2 a.m. at the end of a voyage from Sicily, which it makes twice a week.

Members of the unit and other Customs officers boarded the ship and a search of the crews' quarters revealed some 1,500 bottles of spirits, 1,500 bottles of wine, 600 litres of wine in jerrycans and 900 kilogrammes of pasta.

The ship has a crew of 12.
