Alex Borg joins European leaders at Brussels EPP summit
PN leader holds talks with Metsola and EU leaders ahead of European Council meeting
Opposition leader Alex Borg joined other European leaders form the political family of the European People’s Party for the EPP summit in Brussels on Thursday, just hours before the start of the European Council meeting.
This was Borg’s first EPP summit since the general election and also the first EPP summit for the new prime minister of Hungary Péter Magyar.
The summit discussed the main priorities before the European Council including European security and defence, competitiveness, EU enlargement and Europe’s role in an increasingly unstable world.
Borg also held meetings with other leaders at the summit, including EPP President Manfred Weber and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
Before the Summit began, the PN Leader also held talks with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, at her office in the European Parliament. They discussed how they will continue working to further strengthen the PN, including at European level. Roberta Metsola also addressed the EPP Summit later on.
During the meetings, Borg stressed the need for Malta to remain active in European discussions on competitiveness, security, investment, job creation, and the protection of Maltese and Gozitan families and businesses.
