Alex Borg pledges youth grant to buy smartwatches
18 to 25 year-olds would receive vouchers based on the physical activity they complete
Alex Borg pledged to introduce a new smartwatch grant for those aged between 15 and 25 if elected to government.
Those who participate in the voluntary programme would then receive vouchers based on the physical activity people register on the watch.
“Those vouchers can be used for things like gym memberships, sport equipment, fitness classes and so on,” Borg said.
The policy was among the PN’s planned health policy of a prevention-based approach.
“We are not just proposing a vision but a radical change in the health sector- that focuses on lifestyle”.
Borg said that the programme would be in line with data protection rules. He was speaking on the third full day of campaigning before the May 30 general election.
The PN’s proposals so far have almost exclusively focused on healthcare with Alex Borg providing the finer details of his party’s health plan during a Thursday morning press conference.
Central to his would- be- government’s plan are plans to build two new hospitals in Gozo and Malta’s north, expand the Paola health hub into a hospital and expand Mater Dei Hospital.
He has also pledged to make all cancer medication free of charge, and encourage more Maltese become healthcare professionals by offering to pay minimum wage for all healthcare students.
Maltese professionals including, doctors, consultants and specialised nurses working abroad will not pay any tax for the first five years after returning to Malta, Borg is pledging.
