Alex Borg submits nomination for confirmation as PN leader
Borg was sole person to submit nomination
PN leader Alex Borg has submitted his nomination for confirmation as leader of the the party.
Borg submitted his nomination document to Mario Callus, chairperson of the PN Electoral, Records and Data Commission.
In a statement, PN said that since Borg’s was the sole nomination, according to Article 93 of the Statute, “this shall be submitted to a secret vote by the General Council and, for the candidate to be declared elected, he must obtain at least fifty per cent plus one (50% + 1) of the valid votes cast by the councillors who have voted.”
Consequently, members of the General Council will be asked whether they confirm Borg as party leader.
Voting will take place on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, during the session of the Nationalist Party’s General Council. This session will continue following the opening of the plenary session held on 24 June.
Members of the General Council who are unable to vote on election day will be able to vote earlier. The first early voting session will be held on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. Voting will take place at Dar Ċentrali in Tal-Pietà between 4.30pm and 8.00pm, and at the party’s Sub-Headquarters in Ta’ Sannat, Gozo, between 4.30pm and 7.00pm.
A second early voting session will be held on Saturday, 11 July 2026. On that day, voting will take place at Dar Ċentrali in Tal-Pietà between 9.00am and 8.00pm, and at the Sub-Headquarters in Ta’ Sannat, Gozo, also between 9.00am and 8.00pm.
On election day, Wednesday, 15 July 2026, voting will be held at Dar Ċentrali in Pietà between 12.30pm and 6.00pm. Voting will also take place at the Sub-Headquarters in Ta’ Sannat, Gozo, between 12.30pm and 4.00pm.
