'All public workers are needed,' Abela says following PN jobs-for-votes claim
Adrian Delia said ministries are offering people jobs; Abela did not deny it
All workers in the public sector were employed because they are needed, Robert Abela said in response to PN claims that the government was offering jobs in return for voted.
On Thursday, PN electoral candidate Adrian Delia said ministries are calling people and offering jobs that start at once, ahead of the election.
“In a case I’m familiar with, one person received a call and was told he could start work on Monday and only bring his ID card and a pair of safety boots," Delia had said.
He added that several ministries are "doing their best" to carry favours to get votes.
Asked to react on Saturday morning, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that the workers employed in the civil service and public service provide essential services.
“In fact because the government is offering more services than ever, the heads of public entities often tell me that they need more workers,” Abela said.
“I guarantee that all those working in the public service are there because they were and still are needed”.
He said the PL government has presided over some of the best collective bargaining agreements for public sector workers.
