A man who allegedly climbed into the Birkirkara Nationalist Party club last month was remanded in custody yesterday after the court took into consideration his "colourful" criminal record.
Christopher Shepherd, 38, denied the charges of using credit cards that he found inside the club to withdraw €1,240 in cash, stealing other items from within the club and causing over €116.47 in damage to a door and window to try and gain access. Police Inspector Anthony Portelli said Mr Shepherd should not be granted bail because of his "colourful" criminal record, a point that was contested by the defence who said there were no witnesses.
Defence lawyer Gianella Caruana Curran added that whenever he was granted bail he had obeyed the restrictions.
But Magistrate Doreen Clarke remanded him in custody.
