Alleged phone thief caught carrying 'heroin'

A search of the man's Żebbuġ residence yielded suspected cannabis

A 22-year-old man was discovered carrying eight sachets of suspected heroin after being arrested in connection with the theft of a mobile phone from a St Paul's Bay shop. 

The young man was spotted by two community support officers, who were on patrol yesterday in the locality's Compass Street, in connection with the theft of a phone around a month ago. 

The officers called for assistance, and police attended the scene. A search of the man yielded sachets of suspected heroin, while a search of his Żebbuġ discovered suspected cannabis. 

The man was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in the coming days.
