Eddy Privitera wrote (May 9) that the Nationalist MEPs Simon Busuttil and David Casa have no right to expect Labour MPs to vote in favour of the EU Constitution. With tongue in cheek he claimed that Dr Busuttil and Mr Casa cannot expect the Socialist MPs to break their oath of allegiance towards Malta's Constitution by voting in favour of the ratification of the EU Constitution.
Shame, Mr Privitera still believes Labour's untruths prior to the general election. Doesn't he realise that it was all vote snatching Socialist propaganda that the EU Constitution would supersede our beloved country's Constitution? Does he still really believe that the Nationalist Party would ever betray the independence the party acquired in 1964? What makes him think that what we, Nationalists, believed and aspired for since the party's inception in 1880, we would ever abandon?
Did Mr Privitera read what his leader had to say in the same newspaper, the very same day that his correspondence appeared? Alfred Sant stated that the Labour Party parliamentary group have decided to vote in favour of the EU Constitution. Shame, he mocked all those Labour Party supporters who still cannot see that the Labour leadership has no constant policy. Labour has no way forward. Their policies would have only been successful had they been participating in a Formula 1 race - they act quickly, accelerate their propaganda, they finish up taking the lead only to discover that they have gone back where they started from.
Pity! Malta does not need a strong opposition party. All we require is a competent one. Labour has a lot to learn before they can acquire the title of "government in waiting". Wait they must. Labour supporters must accept that the waiting will go beyond the next general election.
