Aloysians are back at the top of the standings alongside La Salle after beating Kavallieri in a close encounter.

Kavallieri started off well and quickly established a two-goal lead. Aloysians soon settled down though and with Brenda Camilleri in evidence, they shot ahead 6-4.

The last few minutes of the first half saw a Kavallieri comeback which was finished off by a gem of a goal from Russian Natasha Papric to put her team 7-6 up before half-time.

Once again, Kavallieri had a very strong start to the second half as they increased their lead to four goals. But the Aloysians girls never lost pace. With Camilleri again in an unstoppable mood, they hit a fine patch to level the score and then take a 13-12 lead.

The match was tight and seemed heading for a stalemate when Mathilde Friggieri made it 18-16 with a precise shot in the top right corner of the net.

Kavallieri pulled one back but there wasn't enough time for them to level the score. Papric scored seven goals for Kavallieri and Camilleri netted six times for Aloysians.

Player of the match: Brenda Camilleri (Aloysians).

Standings: La Salle 6, Aloysians 6, Kavallieri 3.
