Angela Galea improved her own national record in the 200 metres butterfly yesterday evening. Her time of two minutes 24.18 seconds slashed 1.20 seconds off her previous mark set up in Germany earlier this year. Galea, who was competing on the second day of the national championships, also recorded personal bests in other unfamiliar events as did Roberta Callus when clocking 30.02 in the 50 metres free-style. Such performances indicate that the two girls are on the right line in view of their commitments in the Commonwealth Games in Manchester in two weeks' time.

Neil Agius also recorded personal bests in the 100 metres and 200 metres 'fly. There were a spate of personal bests in the younger age-group. Swimmers from Neptunes, Sirens, Sliema and the Swimming Promotion Unit are taking part in these championships. Gordon Camenzuli yesterday led the Neptunes team instead of Gail Rizzo who is due to return today from a coaching clinic in the US.
