Labour MP Anglu Farrugia today called on the Police Commissioner and handed him a three page document which he said backed his claim that hundreds of votes were “bought” before the general election.

Dr Farrugia, the opposition spokesman for justice in the last administration and himself a former police superintendent, did not go into detail on how the votes were “bought” but said prices varied between €70 and €150 and in one case there was a bonus of €1,500.

Dr Farrugia appeared to be making the allegations in his personal capacity and was not accompanied by Labour Party officials when he gave a press conference outside police headquarters.

He first made his claim two weeks ago on television, when he also said he was interested in contesting the election for the MLP leadership.

PN general secretary Joe Saliba, who had been present when the allegations were made, had appeared to dismiss them.

Dr Farrugia said the allegations were reported to him after the PN victory and he felt it his duty to ask the Commissioner of Police to investigate.
