Activities were organised last month at Dun Karm Psaila, Boys' Secondary School, Żebbuġ, to celebrate and promote love and respect towards animals. The school's Animal Awareness Day started off with the blessing of animals by Fr Alfred Agius.

In the foyer, where the event took place due to the bad weather, one could appreciate charts about different animals done by the students during extra-curricular activities.

Later on in the day, the students had the opportunity to listen to a speech by Moira Delia, a popular personality who is well-known for her love towards animals.

She was invited to speak to students about their duty to respect and love animals - not only domestic animals, but all animals, including exotic ones. Students showed great interest in the appealing points highlighted by Ms Delia.

Afterwards, Rennie Scicluna from the Malta Falconry Centre joined the activities. He brought an eagle with him so that the students could see and appreciate an actual living and breathing eagle.

Mr Scicluna explained the various types of eagles living at the centre and the rehabilitation the centre offers to injured birds, which are then returned to the wild after they are deemed capable of hunting on their own.

The day proved to be a wonderful opportunity to instil in students some very important values, including the realisation that animals have their rights and the importance of loving and caring for animals.
