The Ministry for Rural Affairs and the Environment yesterday announced five awards on the occasion of Animal Wefare Day celebrated today for different categories of people who have shown dedication and respect towards animals.
There will be an award each for children, adults, the media, farmers and education.
Children and adults will be judged for an exceptional deed.
The media award will go to that medium which promoted the care and protection of animals, while the education award will be awarded to an educator for his or her contribution in the teaching of animal welfare.
The farmer's award will be given to a licensed farmer who has contributed significantly to the welfare of animals on the farm with more than the minimum standards required by law.
The awards form part of the ministry's campaign to raise awareness and promote animal welfare.
Nominations can be submitted between November 1 and 30. Nomination forms may be downloaded from www.mrae.gov.mt, or obtained from the secretary of the Animal Welfare Council, c/o Food and Veterinary Regulation Division, Civil Abattoir, Albertown, Marsa.
