The chaplain of the police in Gozo, Mgr Emanuel Curmi, recently led a concelebrated Mass at St Mary Cemetery chapel to mark the 121st anniversary of the Police Force, in the presence of Police Commissioner John Rizzo, members of the force as well as retired policemen.
Mgr Curmi was accompanied by the parish priest of Our Lady of Purification church in Rome, Mgr Paul Cardona, whose father, Wigi, was a policeman.
In his homily, Mgr Curmi encouraged the police to work together to keep peace and order in the country, especially during these times when many Maltese and Gozitans are abandoning God and His laws. After Mass, flowers were placed on the police graves.
A programme of activities was held at Marsalforn, with a performance by the Police Band, an exhibition by the Precision Drill Team and the Dog Section. Pony rides were offered to children, and an open day was held at Victoria Police Station.
A reception for current and retired policemen and their families was held at Villa Rundle, Victoria.
