Obituaries
Fr Paul Aquilina, SJAQUILINA. On February 8, Fr PAUL AQUILINA, SJ, aged 94, was called to eternal life, fortified by the rites of Holy Church, in Jisu Jaher, Dumka, India, where he served as a missionary for the past 72 years. Beloved son of the late Maria Assunta and Anthony Aquilina of Siġġiewi. Predeceased by his brothers and sisters Josephine and her spouse Pawlu, Nicolina and her spouse Edgar, Carmel, Tarcisio and his spouse Flora, Nicholas, and Salvinu and his spouse Josephine. He leaves to mourn his passing his brethren of the Society of Jesus in Malta and India; his brothers and sisters Epifanio and his spouse Lina, Pierre and his spouse Irene, Doreen and her spouse Carmelo, Gemma, Sister Teodoreta of the Franciscan Sisters of the Heart of Jesus; his in-laws Melita and Carmen; extended family, other relatives and friends. Holy Mass for the repose of his soul, offered in thanksgiving for his life and priestly ministry, will be celebrated at the Church of St Nicholas, Siġġiewi, on Thursday, February 19, at 3.30pm. Donations in his memory may be made to the Jesuit Missions, Loyola House, Naxxar. Requiescat in pace.
GRECH. On February 15 at 5.30am at Mater Dei Hospital, LAURENCE, aged 77, born in Msida and residing in Birkirkara, passed away peacefully. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Lilian née Azzopardi, his children Gerald and his partner Martina, Edward and his wife Louise and Robert and his wife Claire, his grandchildren Andrea and Katrina, and Jamie and Nicholas. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Tuesday, February 17 for the parish church of St Mary, known as Knisja l-Qadima, Birkirkara, where mass will be said at 9.30am. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
GRIMA. On February 10, ENZO, aged 86, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family. His love, warmth, laughter, fun, kindness and uniqueness will never be forgotten by all, most especially his beloved wife Sara, his adored daughters Gus and Annabel, his cherished grandsons Rocco and Zeph, respected son-in-law Chris and his many dear nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Tuesday, February 17, for Għargħur parish church, where Mass to celebrate his life will be said at 2pm, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice Malta, Sta Venera, are greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
HERRERA. On February 13, at Mater Dei Hospital, ALBERT, went to meet the Risen Lord at the age of 80. He will be sorely missed by his wife Maria, his son Bernard and his wife Marie Claire, his son Mark and his wife Leanne, his beloved grandchildren Gabriel, Jack, Benji and Ivy, his sister Jacqueline and her husband Anthony Fenech Vella, relatives and friends. The funeral shall be held tomorrow, Monday, February 16. Mass shall be celebrated at 9am at St Julian’s parish church followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
MAGRI. On January 31, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOE, passed away peacefully at the age of 69, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He is deeply mourned by his siblings Johnny and his wife Lucy, Marthese and her husband Raymond, his nephews, Odette, Denise, Massimo, Kayleigh, Julia, Lorna and Matthew, and other family and friends, especially the members of the Ħamrun Spartans Football Club. The funeral will be held on Wednesday, February 18, at 9.45am at St Cajetan’s parish church, Ħamrun, followed by interment at San Blas Żebbuġ cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
