Obituaries

CARUANA. On January 15, KURT, aged 45, passed away peacefully, fortified by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by his loving family. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his beloved wife Roberta, née Stivala; his cherished children Sophia and Sebastian; his mother Fiona; his siblings Dieter and his wife Charlene, Kerstin and her husband Stuart; his in-laws Adrian and his wife Monica Stivala; as well as his relatives and many friends. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow, Monday, January 19, at 8.30am, for the Divine Mercy Sanctuary, Naxxar, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 9.30am, followed by interment at Naxxar cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations to Hospice Malta, Santa Venera, will be appreciated. May the Lord grant him eternal rest.

DARMANIN. On January 15, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANTHONY, aged 79, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church and surrounded by his immediate family. He leaves to mourn his loss his loving wife Bertha, née Laferla, his son David and his wife Kirsten, his treasured granddaughters Emma and Philippa, his sisters Marina, Cora and her husband Michael Rossi, their children, other relatives and friends. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Tuesday, January 20, at 1.15pm, for St Gregory the Great parish church, Sliema, where Mass præsente cadavere will be celebrated at 2pm, followed by interment in the family grave at Naxxar cemetery. No flowers by request. Donations, if wished, to Step Up for Parkinson’s, Naxxar, will be greatly appreciated. Merciful Lord, grant him eternal rest. The family would like to thank his dedicated carer Gilbert who supported him in recent months.

MICALLEF. On January 17, at Mater Dei Hospital, Fr GODFREY, aged 94, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his great loss his Franciscan brothers, his nephews and nieces and their families, other relatives and friends. Fr Godfrey will be exposed for viewing on Tuesday, January 20, as from 8am in the Franciscan convent of Rabat, after which there will be a mass to celebrate his life at Ta’ Ġieżu church, Rabat, at 9am, followed by interment in the Franciscan chapel at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MODI. On January 16, at Mater Dei Hospital, KEKOO, from Mosta, aged 84, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church, surrounded by his loving family. He will be forever loved and cherished by his wife Rose, his daughters Shireen and her husband Shane, Yasmin and her partner Simon, and his beloved granddaughters Ameerah and Zareena. He also leaves to mourn his family and numerous friends in Malta, India, the US, the UK and all over the world. The funeral cortège leaves Mater Dei Hospital on Wednesday, January 21, for the Divine Mercy Sanctuary in Naxxar where Mass praesente cadavere to celebrate his life will be held at 9.30am, followed by interment in the family grave at Naxxar cemetery. To reflect his vibrant life, personality and joyful spirit, those attending are invited to wear bright colours, should they wish. Donations to Inspire Foundation, a charity so close to his heart, will be gratefully appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

CARTER – JESSIE. Ever and treasured memories of our dear mother and nanna on the 20th anniversary of her death. Sadly missed by her family.

ELLUL SULLIVAN. Treasured memories of my parents GEORGE and LILIAN, née Critien, on their anniversaries. May they rest in peace together forever. The family.

GATT – ANNA, née Briffa. Loving and unfading memories on the 26th anniversary of her passing, three months after her mother, Lilian’s tragic death. Sadly missed by her sons Mark and Bobby, her brother Edward, her sister, Joanna and their families. Always in our prayers.

MUSCAT – THERESE, widow of Anthony William. In loving memory of a dear mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, called to eternal life two years ago today. Sadly missed by her children Leslie and Tonia, Doris, Ben and Isabel, Louise, widow of Anthony, Joe and Frances, Antoinette and Walter, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mass for the repose of his soul will be said today, 18th January 2026, at 6pm, at St Sebastian archipretal church, Qormi. EMMANUEL 'BILLY' FORMOSA On the 18th anniversary of his meeting with Christ the Redeemer. "Death has left a vacant place, This world can never fill, The happy hours we once enjoyed, How sweet the memory still." Remembered and dearly missed by Nikolina, Darren Emanuel, Alison and Owen, William and Martina. A memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday 20th January at 6pm at Sant' Andrija Chapel, Mosta. The attendance of family and friends will be appreciated.
