Obituary

STIVALA. On October 19, at St Luke's Hospital, after a short illness bourne with Christian fortitude, CARMEN née Vella, aged 83, widow of Emmanuel, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of Holy Mother Church. She leaves to mourn her great loss her children Charles and his wife Wilhelmina, Marlene and her husband Kenneth, of America and Tony and his wife Jeanette, her beloved grandchildren Elexia and her husband Emmanuel, Aaron and Bell, Emma and Alan and Anthony and Elena, her great-grandchildren Liam and Lea, her brother Albert and his wife Jane, of Pietà, nephews, nieces and many friends.
A Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 8.30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel church, Paceville, next to Millennium chapel. All family and friends are respectfully invited.

ZAMMIT - GAETANO, aged 85, of Hamrun, residing in Naxxar, passed peacefully away comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Margaret, his children Mario and his wife Carmen, Josette and her husband Lewis, and Noel, his nephews and nieces Justin, Yanica, Malcolm and Kristian, his sister-in-law Mary and her husband Gaetano Briffa, other nephews, relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Luke's Hospital today at 7.15 a.m. for Naxxar parish church, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 7.45 a.m. followed by interment at Naxxar Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar Tal-Providenza will be appreciated. The family regret they are unable to receive visitors.

University Concerts

The University of Malta will for the first time hold two successive concerts to celebrate Foundation Day, with popular classical pieces performed by the National Orchestra conducted by Michael Laus.

The concerts will take place at the Republic Hall of the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta on Thursday and Friday at 8 p.m.

Although organised mainly for this year's graduands, their families, University staff and students, these celebration concerts will also be open to the public.

All those who buy a ticket will be invited to a reception to be held afterwards in the La Valette Hall of the conference centre.

All seats are Lm5 each and are being sold on a first-come-first-served basis.

Tickets are available from the KSU offices on campus in the morning and from the booking office at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta, between 5 and 7 p.m. every weekday.

Graduands from the Faculties of Arts, Education, Laws, Science, Theology, Information and Communication Technology and the Centre for Communication Technology are encouraged to attend the performance on Thursday.

Those from the Faculties of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Dental Surgery, Engineering, Economics, Management and Accountancy, Medicine and Surgery, the Institute of Health Care and all other institutes and centres will be attending on Friday.

Melita AFC Mass

A Mass for the repose of the souls of deceased players, members and benefactors of the Melita Football Club will be said by Fr Raphael Pace, spiritual director, on Sunday at the Pembroke parish church at 9.30 a.m. Pyrotechnics festival.

The second edition of the National Festival Of Mechanised Ground Pyrotechnics will be held on April 5, 2008 at St Publius Square, Floriana.

Lecture On British Museum

Heritage Malta and the British High Commission are presenting a public lecture on The World Under One Roof: The Extraordinary Task Of The British Museum.

The lecture will be given by Neil MacGregor, director of the British Museum in London at the Maritime Museum, in Vittoriosa on Saturday at 11 a.m. 

Entrance is free but booking is recommended by calling 2295 4320.

Mr MacGregor has received honorary doctorates from nine universities.
