Obituary

DEGUARA. On Thursday, January 24, at Mater Dei Hospital, ANTONIA, of Msida, aged 78, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Carmen and her husband Edwin Friggieri, Joe and his wife Isabelle, Maria and her husband Anthony Farrugia, and Mark and his children Tamara and Warren, other grandchildren Jeffrey, Brian, Diane, Kevin, Kenneth, Wayne and Janice, their respective spouses and fiancés, great-grandchildren, her sisters Maria and Frances, her sister-in-law Madlene, their respective families, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for St Joseph parish church, Msida, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment in the family grave at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery.
No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.
Lord grant her eternal rest.

MICALLEF. On January 22, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOYCE, widow of Anthony, aged 96, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her daughters Gladys and her husband Joe Debono, Gloria and her husband Frank Mizzi, Frank Borda and his wife Pauline, her grandchildren Sabrina, Mark, Fiona, Bettina, Fleur, Michela, John and Paul and all her great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated today at 8.45 a.m. at St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.
Lord grant her eternal rest.

Studentship At UK University

Bournemouth University is seeking 32 individuals to take up three-year, fully funded (£12,900 stipend per annum plus fees covered) full-time appointments in 2008.

The studentships are being offered across the research centres within the University.

The drive to recruit new PhD students is part of the University's new investment strategy to build on its research achievements and develop world-class centres of academic excellence. The PhD studentships serve as a key component of that strategy.

The closing date for applications is July 31. However, applications are assessed independently and offers may be made to ideal candidates throughout the process.

Social Security Move

The office of the Social Security Division will be temporarily transferred to the division's head office at 38, Ordinance Street, Valletta with effect from today due to structural works at the district office in Valletta.

However, registration for employment will continue to be done in the current premises, 9, Old Mint Street, Valletta.

St Paul Jubilee

Archbishop Paul Cremona and Gozo Bishop Mario Grech have appointed a committee to handle the celebrations related to the jubilee dedicated to St Paul. The committee is headed by Mgr Charles Cordina, pastoral secretary of the archdiocese. The committee met for the first time yesterday at the Archbishop's Curia, in Floriana.

Patronal Festival

St Paul's Anglican Pro-Cathedral will celebrate its Patronal Festival, the Shipwreck of St Paul, through a Sung Eucharist at 11 a.m. on Sunday followed by a Chaplaincy lunch.
