Obituary
McCARTAN-MOONEY - MAUD, née Vassallo, passed away peacefully at Casa Antonia, Balzan, after a short illness, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her irreparable loss her beloved daughter Carol and her husband Philip Zammit-Briffa, her beloved son Desmond, Rosemarie, her grandchildren Adam, Christopher and Nicola, her sisters Yvonne Eastman and Christine Tabone, nephews and nieces, relatives and friends.
The funeral was held privately. A Mass for the repose of her soul will be celebrated today at 6.30 p.m. at St Patrick's church, Sliema.
GRECH. On January 26, at Zammit Clapp Hospital, Polly née Pace, widow of Paul, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her beloved and devoted daughter Natalie, her brother, Br William Pace, SJ, her sister Bice Bezzina, her in-laws Edith Pace, Ineż Borg and Emma Grech, nephews, nieces and friends. - R.I.P.
The funeral leaves Zammit Clapp Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Stella Maris parish church, Sliema where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata cemetery (top gate). No flowers by request but donations to Id-Dar tal-Providenza will be appreciated. Special thanks to all the staff and doctors of the St Joseph Ward at Zammit Clapp Hospital.
VELLA. On January 27, CHARLES, of Sliema, aged 82, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Mary, his brothers and sister Tony, Oscar and his wife Rose and Julia of Australia, and Giovanni and his wife Pauline, nephews and nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8 a.m. for Our Lady of Mount Carmel parish church, Balluta where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m. followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.
Lord grant him eternal rest.
ZAMMIT. On January 27, at Mater Dei Hospital, RITA, née Caruana, widow of Emanuel, aged 89, of Valletta, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children, Rev. Fr George Zammit OFM Conv., Alfred widower of Marion, Emanuel and his wife Carmen, her grandchildren Christine and her husband Mario, Natasha and her husband Ivan, Sarah, Robert, Darrell, Therese, Andrew and Matthew, her great-grandchildren Claire, Luke and Eve, her sister Mananni and her brother Tony of Australia, other nephews and nieces and her brethren of the Immaculate Conception Neo-Catechumenal group of Ħamrun, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.15 p.m. for Our Lady of Sorrows parish church, St Paul's Bay, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3 p.m. followed by interment at the Burmarrad Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to the Hospice Movement will be greatly appreciated. Lord grant her eternal rest.

Intellectuals In Maltese Society
The Role Of Intellectuals In Maltese Society Today is the subject of a short seminar being organised by JAU (Jesuits at University) in conjunction with the Philosophy Society.
It will be held at Dar Manwel Magri, just outside the University of Malta in Tal-Qroqq, tomorrow between 6.30 and 8.30 p.m.
The seminar will be chaired by Pro-Rector Mary Anne Lauri and the panel speakers will consist of Frank Ventura from the Faculty of Education and Fr Louis Caruana SJ, lecturer in philosophy at Heythrop College, London University.
It will be conducted in Maltese.
Lecturers, students and other interested parties are welcome.
Munxar Awards
The prize Ġieħ il-Munxar was awarded to four persons who over the past 50 years have worked and are still contributing to the Munxar parish community.
They are Mgr Joseph Curmi, Mgr Salv Debrincat, Feliċ Debrincat and Salvinu Mercieca.
The presentation was made during an event organised by the Munxar local council to mark the 50th anniversary since the setting up of the parish.
Neckermann Launches Malta Brochure
Neckermann Austria launched its summer 2008 brochure in Malta.
The launch consisted of an educational promotional visit attended by over 300 Austrian travel agents and journalists who travelled Air Malta from Vienna.
Neckermann is the main brand of the Thomas Cook travel group and represents the second largest travel group in Europe. Apart from Austria, the operator also sells holidays to Malta from a number of other European markets served by Air Malta.
German Football On Cable TV
Melita Cable said that starting on February 1 fans of German football can watch an exclusive game per week as well a highlights show every Monday covering all the weekend action.
The acquisition of exclusive TV broadcast rights for top Bundesliga matches is being complemented with the Bayern Munich TV channel, recently launched on Melita.
Six football club channels are now being offered for free to all Melita active customers until the end of March 2008.
