Emerald Wedding

Mr JOSEPH FARRUGIA and Miss LYNETTE MIFSUD
The marriage took place on February 15, 1953, at St Patrick's chapel, Sliema. With love and gratitude. John and Sue, Celine and Norman, Fr Christopher Farrugia, OFM, and Elisabeth and grandchildren Stefanie and Edward, Edward and his fiancée Maria, Nicola and her fiancé Jean, Veronica, Peter.

Obituary

BORG. On February 13, at Mater Dei Hospital, CARMEN, née Fenech, of Mellieħa, aged 64, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. Beloved wife of Carmel and devoted mother of Claire, wife of Marco Zanotti, and Claudette, and loving grandmother of Josef, Andrè and Liam. She also leaves to mourn her loss her brothers and sisters, in-laws, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30 p.m. for Our Lady of Victory (Maria Bambina) parish church, Mellieħa, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 3.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Sultana tal-Vittorji Cemetery,

MELLIEĦA. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, and The Malta Hospice Movement, Balzan, will be greatly appreciated.
The family would like to thank all the staff at the Urology Ward 1 and The Malta Hospice Movement for all their dedication, help and tender care.

DEGABRIELE. On February 14, at St Vincent de Paul residence, MAGGIE, née Bondin, widow of Gaetano. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Rita and her husband Twanny Casa, Saviour and his wife Jane, Maryanne and her husband Michael Polidano, Dorothy and her family, Paul and his wife Marina, Caroline and her husband Roy Steer Chetham, her brother and brothers-in-law, grandchildren, among whom David Casa MEP, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul residence today at 8.30 a.m. for Ta' Ġieżu church, Valletta, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9 a.m., followed by interment in the grave of the Fratellanza tal-Kurċifiss at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.

Requiem Masses

On the second anniversary of the death of MATTHEW SALIBA, tomorrow's 7.30 p.m. Mass at the university chapel of St Thomas Moore will be offered for the repose of his soul. The attendance of relatives and friends will be greatly appreciated.

Social Gerontology

The International Institute on Ageing, United Nations, Malta (Inia), in collaboration with the United Nations Fund for Population Affairs (UNFPA), will be running an International Training Programme on Social Gerontology 2008 at the Imperial Hotel, Sliema from Monday to February 29.

The programme will be opened by Inia's director Joseph Troisi.

The aim of the two-week programme is to provide a broad and up-to-date understanding of the complex and far-reaching consequences of mass longevity which both developed and developing countries are experiencing. There will be 14 participants, hailing from Algeria, China, Ghana, India, Malaysia, Malta, Nigeria, Philippines, Russia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ukraine, USA and Uzbekistan.

Film at University

An evening of film, food and discussion under the title Press Play will be held at the KSU Vodafone Common Room at Students' House, University of Malta on Wednesday at 7.15 p.m. All university students are welcome.

The film to be shown is Oscar And Lucinda, a story about obsessions, guilt, gambling and love, starring Ralph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett. This Australian adaptation of the book with the same title won awards including the Australian Film Institute's Best Lead Actress and Best Screenplay Adapted from Other Sources.

Telephone disruptions

The telephone service of customers who reside in parts of Xemxija and St Paul's Bay will be temporarily disrupted today. Go said the disruption is due to planned cable network maintenance.

Prayer meeting

The committee Moviment Madonna Tal-Konsagrazzjoni will be holding a prayer meeting in Girgenti, Siġġiewi on Sunday at 3.30 p.m.

Taste of rural life

Nature Trust (Malta) will be holding three guided walks which will be open to the public.

The first is themed Rural Life For Kids, aimed at children aged from six to 12 but parents are welcome to join. The tour goes to rural Manikata and will be held in the afternoon on February 23. The fee is €5 (Lm2.15).

The second is a rural and coastal walk for adults throughout the day on March 1. The 6 km walk starts from Mġarr, heads to Il-Karraba, up to Manikata and ends at Golden Bay and Manikata where participants will meet members of the Koperattiva Rurali Manikata. The fee is €7 (Lm3).

The third walk is themed Rural Siġġiewi and is also aimed at adults.

The walk of about 12 km starts and ends at Siġġiewi and includes a visit to Ta' Żeppi organic farm in Fawwara. It will be held in the afternoon on April 9. The fee is €5 (Lm2.15).

No parking

No parking will be permitted at the site known as the Great Ditch, in Valletta throughout the day on March 19 due to filming, the Malta Transport Authority said.

For the same reason no parking will be allowed along Triq Binġemma, Mġarr, Malta in the vicinity of the Binġemma chapel on March 20 during the day. Access through Triq Binġemma will be controlled intermittently.

Competition winners

Victoria Curmi from Victoria won first prize in the Ideacasa Christmas competition, while Joseph Ruggier from Gudja won the second prize and Joseph Xuereb from Xagħra the third. The prizes were presented to the winners by the managing director Anthony Sammut at the Ideacasa showroom.
