Obituary

GRECH. On April 29, at Mater Dei Hospital, CARMELA of Qormi, widow of Joseph, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Carmel and his wife Margaret, Frans and his wife Rose, George and his wife Sylvia, Antonia, Maria and her husband Godfrey, Doris, widow of Charles, Joseph and his wife Georgina, Reno and his wife Rita, Giswarda, Tessie and her husband Gaetano, Romilda and her husband Martin and William and his wife Anna, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8 a.m. for St Sebastian parish church, Qormi, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.
Lord, grant her eternal rest.

GRECH MARGUERAT. On April 28, at Sir Paul Boffa Hospital, JOHN of Paola, ex-headteacher in primary schools, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Miriam, Raymond and his wife Nella, Rosalie and her husband Kenneth Formosa, his grandchildren Deborah, Ruth, Jennifer, Cristina and Daniel, his brothers and sisters, Beatrice, Sr Ursola (OG), Emma and her husband Frans Brincat, Elvira Zammit, Joe and his wife Marisa, residing in the UK, Anthony, Emily, and Winnie and her husband Lino Cardona, residing in Canada, his in-laws Tetie, Ines and her husband Joe Martinelli, and Melita Cassar, nephews, nieces and cousins, other relatives and friends.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. at Christ the King parish church, Paola, followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.
Lord, grant him eternal rest.

MAGRO. On April 28, at Mater Dei Hospital, DOLORES, née Bonello, of Rabat, 10 days short of her 93rd birthday, after a short illness borne with Christian fortitude. Very deeply mourned by her children Mgr Sylvester Magro, OFM, Bishop of Benghazi, Mary and her husband Joseph Casha, Paul, president of L'Isle Adam Band Club, Ġemma and her husband Joseph Azzopardi, Joe and his wife Pauline, Agnes and her husband Joseph Said, Carmen, widow of Charles Farrugia, and Rita, 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 4.30 p.m. at her beloved Ta' Ġieżu church, Rabat, followed by interment at St Margaret Cemetery, Rabat. No flowers by request but donations to Dar ta' San Ġużepp, Ħamrun, will be appreciated.
Her children thank God for her long life and love.

Photographic exhibition

Senior citizens from Malta and Gozo have been invited to take part in the 2008 Shanghai International Senior Citizens Photo Exhibition.

The Malta-China Friendship

Society has been entrusted by the Shanghai Friendship Association to select a number of photos and send them to the promoters. An artist and a well-known photographer have been chosen to select the best print/digital photos.

The theme is A Harmonious World As We See It. The photos must depict Malta's culture, festivals, celebrations, economic and social changes and life and pursuits of senior's citizens.

The photo prints, which can be in colour or B/W, must not exceed 5x7 inches (17x178 mm) in size. Each entrant can submit up to six images.

Digital images can be submitted via e-mail to Doreen Sammut at dsammut@yahoo.com. They must be in JPG format (high quality) at a preferred size of 1MB per image. Printed photos, CDs and DVDs can be forwarded to either Mrs Sammut, who can be contacted on 2144 1350/9948 7218 or to Reno Calleja on 7944 9975.

World Press Freedom Day

The Malta Unesco Youth Association will be celebrating World Press Freedom Day on Saturday by holding a workshop on How Many Of Us Belong To Only One Culture?

The workshop will include a creative writing session using the Loesje Creative Writing Method followed by a photography session inspired by the results of the creative writing session.

The workshop will take place at the KSU board room at the University of Malta, tal-Qroqq at 10.30 a.m. Interested participants should drop an e-mail to info@muya.info by today.

Play at Vittoriosa

The Delfini Ferrieħ of Vittoriosa will stage L-Akbar Sigriet by Lino Grech at the Sala Dumnikana, Vittoriosa, on Sunday at 6 p.m.

Asthma seminar

The Malta Asthmatic Society will be holding a seminar on the occasion of World Asthma Day on May 6 at 10 a.m. at the Hotel Phoenicia, Floriana.

Speaking during the seminar will be Janet Brindly, who published a book on breathing exercises for asthmatics. The book was later translated into Maltese by the society and will be launched on the day Sliema health clinic.

The Sliema health clinic has been transferred permanently to the local council in Depiro Street. The opening hours remain the same, that is Monday to Friday from 8 till 11 a.m.

Road closure

Rudolph Street, in Sliema, from Leone Street up to St Mary Street, will be closed to traffic until June 13.

Traffic in Rudolph Street, going towards the town centre, is being diverted to Manwel Dimech Street. But bus number 63 is being diverted through Manwel Dimech Street to Balluta, St Julians and Dingli Street.

On-street parking is not permitted in various parts of Manwel Dimech Street according to signs and markings in place.

Prayer meeting

A prayer meeting for the sanctification of priests and for priestly and religious vocations will be held on Saturday at All Souls church, Tarxien.

The meeting starts at 9.45 p.m. with Mass followed by adoration until midnight. The prayer meeting is held in different churches every month.

Sacred Geometry

A workshop entitled Sacred Geometry: Exploring Our Self, Nature And Life Through The Ancient Study Of Form will be held by Awareness Workshops on Saturday at the InterContinental Hotel, St Julians between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

The workshop will comprise theory and slide presentations as well as practice, namely traditional drafting exercises and meditations on various archetypes of form and energy.

Elusive Neutrino

Raphael Galea, a Maltese-Canadian particle physicist working at Columbia University, will deliver a lecture entitled The Elusive Neutrino on May 7 at 6.30 p.m. in Room 401 at the Physics and Mathematics Building at the University of Malta.
