Obituary

FRENDO. On May 23, at Mater Dei Hospital, CARM, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Helen, née Jones, his son Frederick and his wife Marianne, his daughter Elaine and her husband David Azzopardi, his grandchildren Christopher, Nicholas and Vanessa.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital on May 26 at 2 p.m. for St Gregory's parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery.
Lord, grant him eternal rest.

RIZZO. On May 23, at St Vincent de Paul residence, MAGDALENE, widow of Anthony, aged 73, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Manuel and his wife Maria, Miriam and her husband Paul Said, Anthony and Raymond, her grandchildren Andrea, Christian and Sephora, her brother Manuel, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves St Vincent de Paul residence today at 2.15 p.m. for Christ the King parish church, Paola, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2.45 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated.
The family wish to thank all the staff at Female Wards 7/8 for their care and dedication.

TONNA. On May 23, at Mater Dei Hospital, MARIA STELLA, née Grech, aged 84, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her children Joe (JoJo) and his wife MaryAnn, Peter, Elizabeth and her husband Joseph R. Fenech, Anthony and his wife Glorianne, Simon and his wife Marilou, Monique and her husband John Zammit, her many nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-granddaughter, her sister Melita Woods and family, her brother Alexander Grech and his wife Lucy and their family, in-laws, other relatives and friends.
The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2 p.m. for Ta' l-Ibraġ parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 2.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be appreciated.
The family would like to thank the staff of Mater Dei Hospital Neuro Medical Ward (2nd Floor) for the sheer dedication and patience shown to our mother and to ourselves.

Embassy closure

The American Embassy will be closed on Monday but will open again on Tuesday. The visa services will be open on Wednesday.

Biology course

A short marine biology course will be held by the Continuing Education Unit of Malta University Consulting Ltd at the Foundation for International Studies in Valletta in July.

The course consists of three short lectures spanning aspects of local marine biodiversity and conservation issues and two scuba diving sessions.

The lectures will take place at FIS in the evenings while diving sessions will be held at the DiveSystems facilities in Sliema.

Spiritual reflection

The Chaplaincy of the University of Malta will hold an evening of spiritual and biblical reflection for academic staff at Mount St Joseph Retreat House, Tarġa Gap l/o Mosta, on June 5 from 4 p.m.

The theme is Truth In Our Lives: How Can We Be True To Ourselves? How Can Our Identity As Christians Be Integrated In Our Lives At University, Family And In Society?

Reflection will be guided by Fr John Avellino, a lecturer in the Department of Philosophy. Family and friends are also welcome to attend.

Choir anniversary

To mark the 25th anniversary since its first performance, the Collegium Musicum Choir and Orchestra will perform Haydn's Mass in Time of War (Paukenmesse) and Te Deum at St John's Co-Cathedral in Valletta on Thursday.

The Paukenmesse is the very same piece of work that marked the choir's debut in 1983.

The Collegium Musicum is the resident choir of the Co-Cathedral, and is directed by Maestro di Cappella Dion Buhagiar.

Entrance to the concert is free.

In the wake of the devastating earthquake that hit Sichuan, China, a charity concert will be held tomorrow at Freedom Square, Valletta starting at 10 a.m. The concert, to raise funds to help the people left homeless by the tremor, will be given by a number of talented Chinese students studying in Malta. The theme of the concert is Love Lights Up Life. The programme will include Chinese music and ethnic dance, among other disciplines.
