Obituary

TORPIANO. On September 22, CATHERINE née Fenech, of Balzan, widow of Michael, aged 89, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her niece Helen and her husband Anthony Sant Portanier, her in-laws, other nephews and nieces and their respective families, relatives and friendsThe funeral leaves Casa Antonia tomorrow at 2.30 p.m. for Balzan parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3 p.m. followed by interment at Mosta cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord grant her eternal rest The family would like to thank the management and staff of St Catherine's Home, particularly Sr Awstella and Casa Antonia for their constant care and dedication.

Requiem Masses

Tomorrow being the 12th anniversary of the demise of KEVIN FELLS, a Mass for the repose of his soul will be said at 6.30 p.m. at Ta' l-Ibraġ parish church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and to remember Kevin in their daily prayers.

Free tickets to Michael Bolton

Vodafone will be giving customers free tickets to the Michael Bolton Concert taking place on October 4 at the MFCC in Ta' Qali.

To participate in the competition, Vodafone Music Jam members are asked to describe Michael Bolton's music in three words by sending an SMS on 5091 1111 by Sunday.

Each SMS costs 5c.

Fifteen concert tickets will be awarded to the most original answers and the winners will be notified on their mobile phone.

Pastels exhibition

The Pastel Society will be holding its annual exhibition at Palazzo De La Salle, Republic Street, Valletta between Friday and October 7.

The exhibition will be open on weekdays between 9 a.m. and 12.30 p.m. and between 5 and 7 p.m. On Saturdays it will be open between 9 a.m. and noon.

The public can also visit the exhibition on October 4, during Notte Bianca, where artists will be present to demonstrate the use of pastels.

Environment Day Mass

The Diocesan Commission for the Environment will be celebrating the feast of St Francis and Environment Day with Mass led by Archbishop Paul Cremona on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the Franciscan Capuchins Church, Floriana.

Sacred music concert

Schola Cantorum Jubilate, under the direction of Marouska Attard, will be giving a concert of sacred music on October 10 at 7.30 p.m. at St John's Co-Cathedral, Valletta. The concert will be held on the occasion of the World Hospice and Palliative Care Day with the theme Hospice And Palliative Care: A Human Right.

The concert features various pieces, mainly Baroque, which will be performed a cappella or otherwise with organ accompaniment by Hugo Agius Muscat.

Everyone is invited to attend. It is suggested that patrons be seated by 7.15 p.m.

Lectures on St Francis

The St Francis Prayer Group is organising a series of nine lectures on the way St Francis lived the teachings of the Gospel.

The lectures, delivered by nine Franciscan Friars from three orders, will be held every Tuesday as from September 30 between 7 and 8 p.m. at the St Francis Centre, Quarries Street, Ħamrun.

Qormi to go back in time

The Kummissjoni Żgħażagħ Basjaniżi will hold an event entitled Lejl F'Casal Fornaro, taking Qormi back to its folkloristic roots, on October 11 from 7 p.m.

Streets will be adorned with traditional decorations and a number of activities will be staged, including theatre, dance, song and art.

The event is intended to foster an appreciation of our ancestors' lives, the baking of bread and the traditional atmosphere.

Conference for employers

The Foundation for Human Resources Development and the Malta Qualifications Council, in collaboration with the European Union Programmes Agency, will be holding a half-day conference on the benefits to employers of informal and non-formal learning on Thursday between 9 a.m. and 1.30 p.m. at the Radisson SAS Bay Point Resort, St Julians.
