Obituary
DISTEFANO. On October 13, at Mater Dei Hospital, ARTHUR, aged 79, husband of Rose, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his children Yasmine and her husband Michael, Adrian and his wife Marica, his grandchildren Ryana and Amy, his sisters Yvonne and Lilian, wife of Victor, his brother Henry, widower of Stella, his in-laws Lawrence, widower of Marcelle, Rose, widow of Frank, Daniel and his wife Mary, Iris, widow of Carmel, Joe and his wife Mary, Vincent and his wife Vivienne and Victor and his wife Lukie, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 8 a.m. for St Anne parish church, Marsascala, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 8.30 a.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to charitable institutions will be appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.
GERADA-AZZOPARDI – ERIC, passed away peacefully in London on October 4, aged 69, comforted by the rites of the Holy Church. Retired Air Malta General Manager UK and Ireland, diplomat and artist. Devoted husband to Anna; dearly loved father of Dida, Emma and Charles; grandfather to Lily Belle, Herbert, Arthur, Freddy and Berty; and brother to Joe. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 8.15 a.m. for St Paul’s Metropolitan Cathedral, Mdina, where Mass praesente cadavere will be celebrated at 9 a.m. There will then follow a private interment at Naxxar cemetery but friends and relatives are invited to join the family from 12.15 p.m. at the Phoenicia Hotel to remember him together. No flowers please but donations to Din l-Art Ħelwa or The Malta Hospice Movement, Balzan, would be greatly appreciated. May the Lord grant him eternal rest.
MEILAQ. On October 13, at Mater Dei Hospital, FRANS of Żabbar, aged 64, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Carmen, his children Maria and her husband Raymond Refalo and Veronica and her husband Frank Bonavia, his granddaughters Gemma and her fiancé Marcel and Abigail and her husband Alphonse-Jonathan, his brothers and sisters, Charles and his wife Tessie, residing in Australia, Tony and his wife Maria, his in-laws Rose and her husband John and Maria, widow of his brother George, his great-grandchildren Owen and Francesca, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital tomorrow at 3.30 p.m. for Our Lady of Grace Sanctuary, Żabbar, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 4 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Żabbar cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to St Joseph Institute, Żabbar, will be greatly appreciated.
SAMMUT. On October 13, at Mater Dei Hospital, RITA, aged 68, passed away peacefully after a long illness borne with Christian fortitude. She leaves to mourn her loss her brothers and sisters, Saviour and Filomena, Doris, Carmen, widow of Ninu Grima, Tony and Evelyn, Polly and Tony Vella, Joe and Jane, Emanuel, widower of M’Assunta, Frances and Emanuel Grima, Johnny, Maria and Alex Muscat, Lucia and James Pawley, Tessie and Joe Gafà, her many nephews and nieces, aunts and cousins, relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 2.30 p.m. for Our Lady of Sorrows parish church, St Paul’s Bay, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 3.30 p.m., followed by interment in the family grave at Burmarrad Cemetery. Donations to The Malta Hospice Movement, Balzan, will be appreciated. Lord, grant her eternal peace.

Choir Festival
The annual Parish Choir Festival will be launched on November 4 with the participation of eight parish choirs.
Organised by the Liturgical Congress, it opens at 7 p.m. at the Mdina Cathedral. Further performances will be held at 5.30 p.m. on November 10 at the Archbishop’s Seminary in Rabat, at 5.30 p.m. on November 12 also at the Archbishop’s Seminary in Rabat and at 6 p.m. on November 14 at St John’s Co-Cathedral, Valletta.
Mass will be celebrated at 5.30 p.m. on November 22 at St John’s Co-Cathedral to close the festival.
The eight participating choirs are the Marija Assunta Choir, Attard; the San Tumas D’Aquino Choir, Guardamangia; the Laudate Dominum Choir, Qormi; the Beata Mater Choir, Marsaxlokk; the Kristu Rxoxt Choir, Pembroke; the Magnificat Choir, Qrendi; the parish choir of Rabat and the Cantate Domino Choir, Żurrieq.
Power supply suspension
The electricity supply in a number of streets in Birżebbuġa will be suspended today because of urgent maintenance work.
The streets are Sta Katerina, Bandli, Kurat Fenech, Tankijiet, San Pietru, San Stiefnu, Il-Gżura, Iż-Żebbuġ, Dawret Qalb Imqaddsa, San Pawl, San Mikiel, Żaren Dalli, Birżebbuġa, Brolli, Is-Sajjieda, Misraħ Il-Knisja, Il-Knisja, Iż-Żurrieq, Sant’Anġlu, San Ġużepp, Santa Rita, Il-Bieqja and Id-Duluri.
Philately exhibition
The Żejtun local council will be holding a philately exhibition at the local council’s hall in 28, Dar Iż-Żwieten, Sant’Anġlu Street between October 24 and 31. Doors are open from 8 a.m. onwards on weekdays, from 5.30 to 7 p.m. on Saturday and from 9.30 a.m. to noon on Sunday.
Road partially closed
Part of Wesgħa Bir id-Deheb, on the side of Triq il-Labour and Triq il-Għadam in Bir Id-Deheb will be closed on Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. due to maintenance works on the drainage system.
