Obituary

AZZOPARDI. On May 20, DENIS, aged 71, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He is deeply mourned by his beloved wife Marion, née Pace, his daughters Noelle and her husband Norbert Zahra, Claire Diacono, and Alison and her husband John Stivala, his grandchildren Luke, Timmy, Katrina, Ben, Daniel, Amy and Andie, his beloved sister Connie Naudi Manche and his brother Vincent and his wife Thilde, in-laws, numerous relatives and friends, especially members of the Muscular Dystrophy Group, the Catenian Association and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. Funeral Mass will be celebrated today at 2.30 p.m. at Stella Maris parish church, Sliema. Since Denis willed his body for scientific research, his remains will not be present at the Mass. The family wishes to thank all those who in any way gave their help and support to Denis throughout his long illness.

BORG. On May 22, EDWARD (tobacconist) of St Julians, aged 62, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife Lora, née Fenech, his children Clementine and her husband Raymond Bartolo, Roselyn and her husband Crispian Knight and Dominic, his beloved grandchildren Jake and Mattea, his brothers and sisters Joseph, Carm, Evelyn, Catherine, Julian and his twin, Tony and relative spouses, his in-laws Joseph, May, Carmen, Pius, Frances, Alfred and spouses, other relatives, friends, and in particular the brethren of the Neocathecumenal of Balzan.The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 1.30 p.m. for St Julians parish church where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 2 p.m., followed by interment at the Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Donations to The Malta Hospice Movement, Balzan, will be greatly appreciated. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Boffa and Mater Dei Hospitals, and those at The Malta Hospice Movement for their dedicated care and support. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

DIACONO. On May 21, SALVU, aged 91, went to meet the Risen Lord, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his beloved wife Rita, née Wirth and his children, Veronica and George Camilleri, Anthony and Karen, Peter Azzopardi, widower of his daughter Anna, Simon and Frieda, Peter and Veronica, Nicky and Christa, Karl and Sandra, Mark and Susanna, Michael and Janine, Julian and Nikki, Roberta and Simon Formosa as well as Giuseppa Bajada, a dedicated nanny; his much loved grandchildren, Nicola and Adrian, Carla, Emma and Kristoff, Sarah, Chris, Ben, Andrew, Simon, Ninia, Michael, Thomas, Nicky, Franny, Timmy, Steve, Sebastian, Luisa, Edward, Jessica, Becky, Andreas, Emily, Sean, David, Alex, Sophie, Gabi, Lucia and Katrina; his brother Victor and Antoinette, his sister-in-law Therese Sullivan and his nephews, nieces, cousins and many friends. Funeral arrangements will be announced later. The family wish to thank the staff of St James Hospital for all their care and dedication and regret that they are unable to receive visitors.

KELLY. On May 22, GEORGE ALFRED of Hamrun, aged 87, passed away peacefully comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his sons Robert and Annemarie, Ronald and his wife Emily, Raymond and his wife Doreen and Edward, his sister Edith and her husband Geoff of Australia, his grandchildren Clyde, Alison, Andrew and his wife Daniela, Matthew, Melanie and Ryan and Nicola and Martin, his great-grandchildren Emma and Jordan, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 2 p.m. at St Francis church, Villambrosa Street, Hamrun. No flowers by request but donations to a charity of your choice will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

Requiem Masses

Today being the first anniversary of the death of CARM FRENDO, a Mass for the repose of his soul will be said at 6.30 p.m. at St Gregory's parish church, Sliema.

On the third anniversary of the death of JOHN J. GIGLIO, a Mass for the repose of his soul will be celebrated today at 6.45 p.m. at the Jesuits church, Valletta.

Mellieha festival

A feast of Maltese food, art, music, culture and history will be held in Mellieha's main square on Friday and Saturday.

The festival, L-Ibliet Lejn il-Majjistral, is being organised by the Mellieha local council in collaboration with those of Valletta, Mdina, Vittoriosa and Victoria, bringing five councils together for the first time.

On the opening night, another 34U campaign will be launched, where a tree can be bought at a subsidised price to be planted at the family park in Selmun later in the year

Family Fun Day

The grounds of San Anton School in L-Imselliet will be transformed into a fun fair for its Family Fun Day and Spring Festival tomorrow. Stalls will be selling fruit, flowers, plants, homemade jam, summer accessories and football tournaments will be held at the recently-inaugurated sports complex.

A free park and ride service will also be available from next to the Zebbiegh church.

Roadworks

Trenching works will be carried out tomorrow along Triq l-Iljun, Marsa, at the junction with Triq il-Marsa. Traffic will be controlled by local wardens.

US Embassy

The American Embassy will be closed on Monday, Memorial Day.
