ZAMMIT - NINETTE, 8.11.1937 - 11.8.2009.
The soft whirring of the fan
In the darkened church
The choir, the incense and the flowers
And in the very centre of the aisle
...your coffin!

The tears flowed unchecked and
Round my throat the grip was strong
Of sadness, pain and mourning.

And yet...I knew for sure, dearest Ninette,
That your suffering was over
And that ours had grown old and tired
Throughout the years of watching
Your slow and painful death!

And so...dear brother, sister, husband, sons,
Dear relatives and friends
Dry up your tears, look heavenward
And let's thank God for giving us
Ninette and also
For taking her into His arms
When His infinite wisdom knew
The time was ripe!
Carmen Zammit, 19.8.2009.
