Obituary

SAID. On March 11, at Mater Dei Hospital, JOSEPH, aged 59, passed away peacefully, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. He leaves to mourn his loss his sons Josef and his wife Marushka, Antonio and Marija, Robertino and Gabrielle and their mother Berta, his grandson Luigi, his brothers and sisters Catherine and her husband Anthony, Peter and his wife Tessie, Sylvia, Anna and her husband Henry, Mario and his wife Manuela, Tania and her husband Mark and their respective families, other relatives and friends. Mass praesente cadavere will be said today at 9 a.m. at St Cajetan parish church, Ħamrun, followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. No flowers by request but donations to Dar tal-Providenza, Siġġiewi, will be greatly appreciated. Lord, grant him eternal rest.

SIMPSON. On March 11, LILLIAN, widow of Raphael, passed away, comforted by the rites of Holy Church. She leaves to mourn her loss her sons Christopher, Dominic and Nicholas and his wife Karyn, her grandchildren Luke, Maryana and Andrew, other relatives and friends. The funeral leaves Mater Dei Hospital today at 9 a.m. for Stella Maris parish church, Sliema, where Mass praesente cadavere will be said at 9.30 a.m., followed by interment at Santa Maria Addolorata Cemetery. Lord, grant her eternal rest.

Requiem Mass

Today's 6.30 p.m. Mass at Balzan parish church will be offered for the repose of the soul of PAUL BONNICI (ex-Director, Paolo Bonnici Ltd). The attendance of relatives and friends will be greatly appreciated.

Paper on children

The seminar series Work in Progress in the Social Studies on Wednesday hosts Sharon Attard, a lecturer in the anthropology of children at the University of Malta.

She will present a paper entitled Is This Play? - Maltese Children's Negotiations Of Play In A Drama Classroom, which explores the behaviour of children between five and 15 years old in two prominent drama schools.

The presentation takes place between 6 and 7 p.m. at the University's Mediterranean Institute's Room 124, by the Arvid Pardo Study Area; everyone is invited.

Science seminar

The Science Students' Society will be holding a weekend seminar entitled Modern Science: Insanity Or Essential To Humanity? between March 19 and 21 at the Qawra Palace Hotel in Qawra. Play's second run

Whatstheirnames theatre will stage a second run of Art by Yasmina Reza on Friday and March 20 at 8 p.m. at the MADC Playhouse in Santa Venera. The play is directed by Malcolm Galea and the cast includes Nathan Brimmer, Philip Leone-Ganado and Joseph Zammit.

Easter bazaar

The Attard parish will hold an Easter bazaar on March 27 and 28 at the Pope John Paul II parish centre. To order figolli in advance, call on 2143 4949. The bazaar will be open between 8.30 a.m. and 8 p.m. on both days.

Fund-raising marathon

Arka Foundation in Gozo will hold a television fund-raising marathon on March 28, Palm Sunday.

The marathon will be aired between 1 and 10 p.m. on Calypso TV, Net TV and One TV and will be transmitted directly from Gozo. The event will include the participation of renowned bands, artistes and personalities.

Funds raised will go towards Arka's work, which includes Dar l-Arka, a respite home for disabled people and their families.

President's charity ball

A charity ball in aid of the Malta Community Chest Fund will be held on March 20 under the patronage of President George Abela and Mrs Abela at the Radisson Blu Resort in St Julians.

All proceeds will go towards the MCCF to help philanthropic organisations and individuals who require expensive medical treatment, relatives accompanying patients abroad and families in need.

Guests will be treated to a gala dinner sponsored by the resort's directors, with live entertainment by the band of the Armed Forces of Malta.

Tickets, at €60 each, can be reserved at the office of the MCCF, The Palace, Valletta, through Claire Micallef Pulè. Call on 2124 0784 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Xgħajra annual meeting

The Xgħajra council will be holding its annual public meeting on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at its premises in St James Street, Xgħajra. The meeting is open to all residents whose name appears on the electoral register for Xgħajra.
