Family and Social Solidarity Minister Dolores Cristina yesterday inaugurated a new day centre for persons with disability at Paola.

The centre brings the number of such facilities to 10 with the others being in Sta Venera, Ħal Far, Fleur-de-Lys, Marsascala, Pembroke, Swatar, Vittoriosa and two in Mtarfa.

The day centre was in line with the social policy to offer equal opportunities to all members of society and to upgrade services. There are over 400 persons with disability who are making use of the day centre programme which is run by the agency Sapport, which last year was appointed as the national agency to administer these centres.

The aim of these programmes was to offer a personalised service to enable disabled persons to develop their potential and to offer them support in the process.
