The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has launched a preliminary appeal for $12.3 million to bring relief assistance to the victims of the earthquake that devastated the Iranian city of Bam on Friday.

At least 30,000 people were killed in the earthquake, an estimated 50,000 were injured and tens of thousands left homeless.

The Malta Red Cross Society will be accepting donations to Bank of Valletta a/c 10214861012 and HSBC Bank a/c 33143371050. One can also donate Lm1 by sending an SMS on 617517.

Cheques should be addressed to the Malta Red Cross Society, 104, St Ursula Street, Valletta VLT 05.
