A Mepa decision to ban further development at Portomaso has been overturned by the Appeals Board, which has approved a proposal for the building of 46 bungalows around an artificial lagoon with a total area of 7,400 square metres

The original application was turned down last year by the chairman’s casting vote on the basis that the 1996 permit for Portomaso had included a provision that no further development could take place.

The Fenech family successfully argued on appeal that the site of the new bungalows was earmarked for development in the local plan.
