Applications open for two new judges to strengthen 'largest judiciary' ever

Justice Minister says continued strengthening of the judiciary complements ongoing reforms

The Ministry of Justice on Friday issued a call for applications for the appointment of two more judges in a bid to strengthen “the largest judiciary in Malta’s history”.

In a statement, Justice Minister Clifton Grima said “the continued strengthening of the judiciary complements the various reforms currently under way in the justice sector”.

He said increasing human resources and promoting greater specialisation are intended to raise standards and improve efficiency within the justice system.

Applicants who satisfy the eligibility criteria established by the Constitution of Malta will be assessed by the Judicial Appointments Committee.

Following the evaluation process, the committee will submit the names of three candidates for each post to the President for consideration and selection.

Applications are open until August 7.

The latest call for applications comes after two new judges were appointed in March. There are currently 28 active judges serving on the bench including the Chief Justice.
