Aloysians beat La Salle to land sixth title
La Salle 20
Aloysians 28
\nIn a thrilling match, Aloysians had the better of La Salle for the second time this season to secure their sixth national championship.
Both teams took to this game without some important players. Aloysians had to make do without prolific scorer Philip Mifsud and Andrew Meli and La Salle were missing Andrew Mifsud, last season's player of the year. Dimitar Milev, league top scorer last season, played despite not being fully fit.
The game had a balanced start with La Salle going two goals ahead after 10 minutes. Aloysians pieced together a 5-0 scoring run to seize the upperhand, taking a two-goal advantage until half-time.
By the halfway mark, both teams were playing well and the indications were that the result would remain undecided till the final whistle. It was not to be as a dreadful eight-minute spell saw La Salle giving up their hopes of a second consecutive title.
Following a tactical change in La Salle's defence, Aloysians took full advantage of the acres of space on court, surging six goals ahead thanks to the clinical finishing of Matthew Mamo.
La Salle tried hard to fight back but the game had already been lost for them.
Aloysians extended their lead to eight goals with two brilliant efforts by Roberto Ragonesi who scored nine goals during the game.
Andrew Said was La Salle's top scorer with five goals.
Player of the match: Matthew Mamo (Aloysians).
Standings: Aloysians 21, La Salle 18, Depiro 6, Kavallieri 3.
