An activity to mark Arbor Day was recently organised at the Anton Buttigieg Primary School in Qala by the Hands-on Farming Programme within the Gozo College. It consisted of a varied programme including the reading of essays and poems by pupils.

Year 6 students planted specimens of two of Malta's protected trees, the Holm Oak (ballut) and the Bay Laurel (sigra tar-rand) in the school's main garden next to already established specimens of the national tree (gharghar) and the national plant, the Maltese Rock Centaury. Pupils from each class planted a sapling of the Maltese Rock Centaury in various pots inside the school while all the children were given seed packs of endemic trees and a sapling to take home.
