Archbishop recalls 'young lives' lost to war, drugs on Our Lady of Sorrows
'So many victims of harsh decisions of those who lead the world' - Archbishop Charles Scicluna
The Archbishop recalled the “young lives” being lost to war and drugs, leaving so many mothers and fathers in tears.
In his homily on the occasion of Our Lady of Sorrows at the Church of Santa Marija ta’ Ġesù (Ta’ Ġieżu) in Valletta on Friday, Archbishop Charles Scicluna reflected on the grief of “many mothers”, as well as parents and relatives, mourning the victims of wars “raging around us”.
“So many young people are being sent to be killed by the enemy. So many young lives, so many victims of the harsh decisions of those who lead the world,” the archbishop said.
He also focused his homily on mothers mourning children who died from a drug overdose or other circumstances.
Drawing on the image of Our Lady of Sorrows, sitting beneath the cross of her Son, Archbishop Scicluna spoke of the “tears of so many mothers and fathers”, noting that “love can sometimes turn into sorrow and grief, but it remains love”.
