In general elections, as in betting, some win, and some lose. But those who placed their bets about who would win the election with a 31-year-old man from Birkirkara lost irrespective of which party won.

Police sources said a man was arrested and found with some Lm4,000 cash in his possession as well as a notebook with details about election-related bets amounting to Lm90,000.

The man was also found in possession of notes related to clandestine lotto.

Both are illegal.

The sources said the man was arrested on the eve of the last general election and he is expected to be arraigned shortly.
