Robert Arrigo was yesterday confirmed as president of Premier League champions Sliema Wanderers during the annual general meeting held at the Galaxy Hotel.
Arrigo, at the Wanderers' helm since January 1996, addressed the members present for the meeting. He mentioned last season's successful league campaign and the current situation after the draw of the first qualifying round of the Champions League was made on Friday. The Wanderers were paired with Latvia's FC Skonto.
Sliema, incensed by the Malta FA decision to introduce another Lm5,000 fee, besides other payments, on ground usage for the 'home' leg in the European Cup, have already asked UEFA's permission to play their two matches against FC Skonto in Riga. Response from the European governing body of football is likely this week.
UEFA Cup representatives Birkirkara and Valletta will have to pay an additional Lm1,000 each according to the association ruling on new payments.
Meanwhile, Sliema will have two new faces in the committee.
Yesterday, Tony Meli and former Marsa FC president Joe Gauci, were named in the new Wanderers' administration for the coming season.
They will join Charles Borg, Edward Borg, Vince Borg, John Bugeja, Robert Dingli, Jeffrey Farrugia, Mark Migneco and Godfrey Pace.
