Arsenal top scoring chart for third year running
2004/05 goal total shows decline
For the third consecutive year, Arsenal finished on top of the heap for the best scoring average in the Premiership, improving on their previous means of 1.92 (2004) and 2.24 (2003) to 2.29 - a total of 87 goals in 38 league matches.
In the top echelon, the scoring total of 975 is 37 down on the previous campaign. From the remaining divisions only League One showed a plus and the overall total score aggregate of 5,215 is 90 below the preceding season.
Other sides in the Premier League that showed an increase on their previous data were Bolton, Chelsea, Middlesbrough and Southampton.
Everton, Fulham and Tottenham remained on the same amount as in 2004. The biggest increase is that of Arsenal - 14 more nettings.
The total of 5,215 goals in digits by the end of season 2004-05 reads:
Premiership: 975 - an average of 2.56 goals per match (previous season: 1,012 - average 2.66).
The Championship: 1,342 - an average of 2.43 goals per game (previous season: 1,435 - average 2.60).
League One: 1,551 - an average of 2.81 goals per match (previous season: 1,460 - average 2.64).
League Two: 1,347 - an average of 2.44 goals per game (previous season: 1,398 - average 2.53).
