A fully functional wind-powered generator made from recycled vehicle parts by student Carmensita Galea is one of the exhibits at an art and design exhibition opened yesterday by Education Minister Louis Galea at the Italian Cultural Institute in St George's Square, Valletta.

The exhibition displays the projects of final year students at Institute of Art and Design, which forms part of the Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology.

Thirty-five projects ranging from bathroom accessories, street furniture and jewellery to promotional and educational video clips are being exhibited.

They include a user-friendly mailbag complete with packaging by Stefan Mifsud, and the MCAST corporate prospectus for 2002-2003 designed by Alessandro Casselli.

A set of murals designed by Paul Mizzi were specifically commissioned for the lift shaft inside Palazzo Ferreria, which houses the Ministry of Social Policy.

All these projects were submitted by students after completing the four-year course in industrial, interior and graphic design.

Collaboration between the Institute of Art and Design and the Italian Cultural Institute dates back 20 years when the first exhibition was held.

The exhibition will be open tomorrow and between Monday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 2.15 to 5 p.m.
